Prospective Plant Parent: Rubber Trees are ideal for eager newbies and consistent plant owners looking for statement plants with large, gorgeous, artificial-looking leaves.

Difficulty: Intermediate. This plant is not actually made out of rubber and doesn’t love a lot of change. Once your Rubber Tree is happy, be careful to keep its environment as consistent as possible.

Lighting: Rubber Trees love bright, consistent indirect light. They can sometimes survive in lower light, however, they will grow much slower and develop larger lighter-colored leaves.

Watering: Overwatering your Rubber Tree can be a death sentence for your plant. Water your Rubber Tree when the top inch of the soil feels dry. Thoroughly drench the soil until the water drains into the saucer, then empty the excess water out of the saucer to not drown the roots. Loss of leaves could be a sign of the beginning of root rot and the plant’s way of telling you it needs less water. Your Rubber Tree plant will wilt and shrivel if it is not receiving enough water. Try to avoid splashing the leaves when watering to prevent leaf stains.

Humidity: Native to rainforests, Rubber Trees love humidity. If your plant is not kept in a humid room, you can mist or wipe down the leaves weekly with a damp cloth.

Temperature: Rubber Trees enjoy staying warm and cozy in temperatures between 60-75 degrees. These plants are sensitive to temperature changes and prefer to stay in areas with consistent light, humidity, and temperature.
